Schematic Design Report

The Schematic Design Report (SDR) is the phase of the project where the selected preferred solution is further developed into a cohesive and detailed design concept. Building on the approved Preferred Schematic Report (PSR), the SDR advances site plans, floor plans, and building systems to a level that clearly defines the project’s scope, layout, and overall approach. It includes refined cost estimates and an updated project schedule, ensuring alignment with the budget and program requirements. The SDR provides the Massachusetts School Building Authority and the community with the information needed to confidently move the project into the next phase of design and ultimately toward construction

What is the Preferred Schematic Report?

The Preferred Schematic Report (PSR) is a stage the project where the design team and community identify the single best option to meet the district’s educational and facility needs. It summarizes the options studied, explains why the chosen solution is preferred, and provides early site and floor plan concepts. The PSR also includes a preliminary budget and schedule, giving the Massachusetts School Building Authority and the community confidence to move the project into detailed design.
